Locally Inspired Art: (06/08/08)
Final year student, Louise Dean, found inspiration in our local surroundings to design a range of prints that has resulted in her being offered a job with a large U.S. clothing company. Louise takes up the story:

"During my final year at Loughborough University studying Multi-media Textile Design we were approached by Abercrombie and Fitch, an iconic American clothing company, with a design brief. If successful, candidates would attend second round interviews in Ohio, USA."

"I needed inspiration and found it in Abersoch, the beautiful beaches, water sports and crowds of young people did the trick. Abercrombie trade on their young healthy, preppy image, so i used photographs of the area to design a range of prints, which I then printed onto organic fabrics. I got through and the trip to Ohio was fantastic, seven gruelling interviews were made easier by the luxury hotel, a tour of Ohio, of course it's shops and the Abercrombie home office which was a vision of wood nestled in the middle of a forest, really inspiring!
I waited until May and then was delighted to be offered a position of assistant designer. Now after completing my course and obtaining a First Class Honours there is just the visa to sort out."

Below is one of the photos that inspired Louise's successful prints (Pwllheli sea front), followed by some examples of her work.
